In the near future, consumers will have the ability to pay for most things from their smartphones.  The predicted growth of Mobile Payments is 3 fold over the next 4 years.  Siting information from Juniper Research, it is predicted  mobile payments will grow because of remote mobile payments and payments made by mobile phones at the point of sale.
The need to carry credit cards will eventually become a thing of the past as our smartphones are able to verify who we are and that we have sufficient funds or credit the complete a transaction.
